Ground Zero

One of the first things they did was visit Ground Zero. It was all fenced off so you really couldn't see anything, but across the street was the church that all the rescue workers went to pray & rest between shifts.

Allen said you had to walk through he cemetery to get to the church

How sad it must have been walking back and forth through the cemetery while it was completely covered in ash knowing that so many people died & were dying at that time.
This is the missing persons board, you may have seen on T.V. when people were searching for their loved ones.

Firefighters and police depts. from everyone who worked on the rescue team as well as those who lost their lives donated their patches to this memorial.

This is where some firefighters slept between shifts.
